Welcome to The McKercher Index

The McKercher Index is a genealogical database of the McKercher families of Perthshire and the surrounding counties of Scotland. The database documents their descendant families including those that left the highlands and those that have immigrated overseas.

This index was created for the purpose of reconnecting surviving descendant families and documenting their history.

The index is compiled primarily from the parish records from ScotlandsPeople as well as supplementary records from Ancestry and other corroborating sources. The index is also supplemented from the Census records from 1841 to 1901.

The records of families contained within the McKercher Index have been related based on the names documented, including those of witnesses and sponsors as well as locations. While the information contained here-in is curated and researched, there will be errors due to the limitation of sources and resources. Changes and updates will occur, as new information and family linkages are made.

The family trees range from the 1600's to 1900's, with a few descendant families to present day.

The areas indexed are Fortingall, Kenmore, Weem, Dull, Menteith, Strathearn, Glasgow, Edinburgh as well as Canada, USA, Australia and New Zealand.

Associated families such as the McGregors of Roro, McNaughton, Cameron and Campbell are also included in the index in part to help reconstruct family trees.

DNA linkages are available to view in the index. These will be added on an on-going basis as permitted. Please contact us if you would like to particpate.

The 1841 Census for Fortingall, Kenmore, Killin and Weem has been indexed, and is available under the Census page. This has been organized by the 1930 parish boundaries so portions will fall within Dull and Logierait parishes. On-going work to determine the families of those within the census is being undertaken.

This is an on-going project and any family history sources or other information is most welcome. Historical content and research material will be added on an on-going basis.
